DISCOVER YOUR PURPOSE
Passion and purpose go hand in hand; at least that has been the case in my own life. Without purpose, your passion for accomplishing anything in life will either die or will lead you to an empty, unfulfilling place. Passion is a key ingredient in success in any area of life but it must be energized and cultivated. This is accomplished by discovering and pursuing your purpose. If at any point you are losing your passion, go back to your purpose. If you have lost sight of your purpose or are struggling to even know what your purpose is, trust this: it is enough to know you HAVE a purpose for being on this earth. There is joy in pressing in to discover what that purpose is for your life; do not ever lose hope in that process.
After coming to the realization in my early 20’s that my life had been driven by fear, I discovered–by the grace of God–that I could live a life fueled by purpose. But in order to discover what my purpose was, I had to dig deep and ask myself this important question: What do I value? In other words, what was truly valuable and important to me? Not to my parents, not to my friends, not to my teachers and coaches. What did I, Kelli Masters, value? This discovery process takes time and, in my case, lots of prayer and journaling. But over time I came up with a list things I genuinely valued:
- Faith
- Serving/helping others
- Positively impacting lives
- Seeking justice
- Advocating for people and causes I care about
- Sports – both the lessons learned as a participant, and the impact sports have on culture
Pressing in to pursue those things led to me finish law school. Finishing law school led me to start a law practice as a litigator and nonprofit organization expert. Working with nonprofit organizations led me to working with my first professional athlete. And the rest is history. Personally, I could not have mapped out my life the way it has gone. The experiences of my childhood and young adult years brought me to a place of decision: and because of the choice I made, my life looks completely different than I imagined. It has been extraordinarily challenging at times. But it is infinitely better, more fulfilling and more impactful than I ever thought possible.
So, what about you? What do you value? What brings you joy and causes your eyes to light up? Press into the things that are most important in your life. Digging in to truly discover your passion will not only lead you to your purpose, it will also anchor your soul. When the tough times come–the dark, lonely or stressful moments–you will persist and overcome the challenges in front of you.
